Iron Pyrite Specimen (Fool's Gold)

This is a raw mineral specimen of natural iron pyrite, commonly referred to as 'Fool's Gold'. The specimen exhibits a strong metallic luster with a characteristic pale brass-yellow hue that reflects light across its multifaceted surface. Morphologically, it displays a combination of microcrystalline clusters and larger, well-defined cubic or pyritohedron crystal structures. Notably, several larger crystals on the right side of the specimen exhibit distinct striations—parallel grooves across the crystal faces—which are a diagnostic feature of pyrite mineral formation. The piece appears dense and heavy for its size, typical of iron disulfide. The texture is highly irregular and sharp-edged, indicating it is an unpolished, raw geological sample. Regarding condition, the specimen shows some natural tarnish and slight darkening in recessed areas, which is standard for natural minerals. There is some minor shedding or crumbly texture visible at the base of the image (small black specks), which is common for less stable pyrite formations. There are no signs of man-made alterations or chemical treatments visible. The age of such a geological specimen is impossible to determine visually but dates back to the rock formation's geological period. Overall, it is a high-quality mineral sample with excellent crystalline definition and strong reflective properties.
