2002 Austrian 20 Euro Cent Coin

This is a 20 Euro Cent circulation coin minted in Austria, dated 2002. The coin is composed of 'Nordic Gold,' which is a copper-based alloy (89% copper, 5% aluminium, 5% zinc, and 1% tin) that results in a distinct yellowish-gold hue despite containing no actual gold. A defining physical characteristic of the 20-cent denomination is the 'Spanish flower' shape, featuring seven indentations along the rim to aid in tactile identification. The reverse side (shown) features the Belvedere Palace in Vienna, one of the finest examples of Baroque architecture in Austria, symbolizing the country's national heritage. Above the palace, the words 'EURO CENT' are inscribed, and below the palace gates, the number '20' is centered above the date '2002'. Encircling the central design are the twelve stars of the European flag. The coin shows signs of circulation wear, including surface tarnish, minor scratches, and softened details on the architectural reliefs. There is a noticeable patina typical for this alloy after years of handling. This piece represents the first year of Euro coinage circulation in Austria.
