George III Style Mahogany Slant-Front Bureau

This is a fine antique slant-front bureau, likely of English origin and dating to the late 18th or early 19th century in the George III tradition. The piece is constructed from high-quality mahogany featuring a rich, deep reddish-brown finish. The sloping fall-front opens to reveal a fitted interior (not visible), while the lower section comprises four long, graduated drawers. Each drawer is framed with delicate boxwood stringing or light wood inlay, accentuating the horizontal lines. The hardware consists of classic brass bail handles on circular or oval backplates and matching brass escutcheons for the locks. The bureau is supported by shaped bracket feet, which provide a sturdy yet elegant foundation. Notable craftsmanship is evident in the book-matched flame mahogany veneers on the fall-front, displaying a beautiful swirling grain pattern. Overall condition appears excellent with a well-maintained polished surface, displaying typical minor age-related wear and a soft patina on the brass fittings. Small pull-out lopers are situated on either side of the top drawer to support the desk lid when in use, each finished with small brass knobs.
