This is a two-piece antique French Breton-style dresser, also known as a buffet à deux corps or a hutch. Constructed from a dark-stained solid oak, the piece features an open plate rack top and a sideboard base. The top section consists of four tiered shelves with integrated plate grooves and protective galleries, finished with a scalloped apron and a carved cornice. Notably, the center of the lowest shelf features a small carved cupboard door depicting a traditional figure in relief. The lower base contains two drawers with ornate brass bail handles over two large cupboard doors. These doors are heavily carved with intricate circular motifs featuring figurative scenes of Breton country life, surrounded by scrolled moldings and floral accents. The cabinet sits on short cabriole legs transitioning into a scalloped bottom rail. The hardware includes long, decorative vertical brass escutcheons. The overall condition shows a rich, aged patina with minor surface scratches, fading on the horizontal surfaces, and some light wear consistent with 19th-century or early 20th-century craftsmanship. The deep carvings and solid joinery indicate high-quality regional furniture production.
