Antique 19th Century Embossed Metal Steamer Camel Back Trunk

This is an antique camel back or barrel top steamer trunk, likely dating from the late 19th century (circa 1880-1890). The piece features a curved wooden structure reinforced with vertical and horizontal hardwood slats (likely oak or pine) and a decorative embossed tin metal covering. The tin panels are finished in a dark, possibly faux-leather or japanned bronze tone, and feature a repeating floral or damask pattern. The trunk is heavily ornamented with cast metal hardware, including 'star' pattern corner braces and ornate decorative clamps that secure the wooden slats to the body. A central metal latch/hasp is present, though the key is missing. The sides appear to be made of smooth blackened sheet metal or wood. In terms of condition, there is visible heavy wear consistent with age, including surface oxidation on the metal, abrasions and scratches on the wooden slats, and significant dust accumulation. The leather side handles, which would have originally been present for lifting, appear to be missing or disintegrated. No manufacturer’s label is immediately visible on the exterior, but the 'star' hardware indicates a mass-produced American style popular during the Victorian era.
