Harmonic Institution, Regent Street (Antiquarian Steel Engraving)

This is an original 19th-century steel-plate engraving with hand-colored highlights, titled 'Harmonic Institution, Regent Street'. The artwork depicts a neoclassical architectural scene of London’s Regent Street during the Georgian/Regency period, featuring horse-drawn carriages, street life, and the prominent domed structure of the Argyll Rooms (Harmonic Institution). The engraving displays fine, delicate line work characteristic of 1820s-1830s British topographical prints. It includes a lower-margin inscription stating 'Drawn by Tho. H. Shepherd' and 'Engraved by J. Tingle', with a publication line noting it was published Jan 26, 1828, by Jones & Co. at Temple of the Muses, Finsbury Square, London. The print is presented on cream-toned paper within a modern ivory-colored beveled mat. Physical condition appears good with minor age-related foxing and light toning visible on the paper. The craftsmanship reflects the high quality of Thomas Shepherd’s famous 'London in the Nineteenth Century' series. A gold sticker on the matting guarantees the print to be over 100 years old, while the entire piece is protected by a clear plastic wrap.
