The most distinguishing features are the decorative enamel crests applied to the front surface. One crest is a shield shape featuring the word 'KÖLN' (Cologne) at the top, though interestingly, the metal engraving directly above the crests reads 'GELSENKIRCHEN'. Next to this is a secondary octagonal crest with a red and white radial pattern reminiscent of traditional German municipal symbology. The tarnished exterior suggests a vintage age, likely mid-20th century (circa 1950s-1970s), which was a popular era for such European traveler commemorative-ware. The surface shows a significant amount of patina, oxidation, and minor scuffing, consistent with age and handling.
