The marquetry displays a geometric pattern composed of tiny tessellated pieces, rendered in contrasting light and dark materials, likely ivory or bone, brass, and different woods, forming a star-like motif. The color palette of the marquetry is predominantly gold, brown, and off-white. The central panel on the lid is the focal point, featuring a vibrant miniature painting depicting a hunting scene.
