This item is a Wedgwood Jasperware ashtray, characterized by its iconic matte, classical blue (often referred to as 'Wedgwood blue') ceramic body with applied white relief decorations. The ashtray is circular with a subtly raised rim, and contains three indentations along the edge, clearly designed to hold cigarettes, indicating its function. In the center, a highly detailed white bas-relief depicts a classical scene, likely featuring figures from Greek or Roman mythology, perhaps a goddess with a child or putto, rendered with intricate drapery and posture. Surrounding this central medallion, and along the inner edge of the ashtray, are delicate white applied reliefs of grapevines and leaves, forming an elegant border. The craftsmanship is evident in the sharp detail of the applied reliefs, a hallmark of Wedgwood Jasperware. The item appears to be in excellent condition, possibly new old stock, as it is presented within what seems to be its original light blue presentation box, which shows minimal to no signs of wear.
