Its primary material appears to be wood, adorned with meticulously executed marquetry (khatam-kari) across its exterior surfaces. The marquetry displays a geometric pattern composed of tiny tessellated pieces, rendered in contrasting light and dark materials, likely ivory or bone, brass, and different woods, forming a star-like motif. The color palette of the marquetry is predominantly gold, brown, and off-white. The central panel on the lid is the focal point, featuring a vibrant miniature painting depicting a hunting scene. This scene includes several figures on horseback, some with bows and arrows, pursuing various animals like deer and possibly wild boar.
