The front panel depicts an intricate scene executed in gold-toned or yellow pigment, showing two human figures in traditional attire (possibly scholars or courtiers) positioned between architectural elements like a pagoda and a pillared pavilion. The scene is further embellished with stylized flora, including palm trees and bamboo. The top lid displays more faded, similar Chinoiserie imagery. Structurally, the box is crafted from wood with mitered or butt joints. Significant condition issues are visible: there is extensive surface wear, including deep scratches, scuffs, and chips along the edges. The top lid shows substantial fading and loss of the decorative paint, along with what appears to be water spotting or heat damage. There is a small keyhole on the front, though the escutcheon plate and key are missing.
