These garnets exhibit the deep, saturated 'pigeon blood' red color characteristic of the Bohemian region. The clusters are interconnected by sinuous, hand-formed metal openwork vines, which are also inlaid with smaller graduated garnets. The base metal appears to be 'garnet gold' (a low-carat gold alloy) or gilded silver (vermeil), which has developed a significant dark aged patina common for this style and age. The construction displays typical Victorian craftsmanship with many-pronged 'crested' or 'claw' settings that secure each individual stone while allowing light to penetrate the facets.
