This item is a slip-cast ceramic vessel designed in the trompe-l'œil style to resemble a bundled crate of white and green asparagus spears. The object features a rectangular form with a deep recessed base. Physically, the piece is composed of numerous molded ceramic asparagus stalks, hand-painted with a pale white and sage green glaze, cinched together by two rendered brown hemp or twine ropes at either end. The interior and bottom are finished with a high-gloss white glaze. On the underside of the base, there are distinct hand-incised markings, specifically the numbers '1555' or a similar manufacturer's numeric code, alongside what appears to be a stamped 'F' or 'FI' mark, consistent with the production marks for Fitz and Floyd or similar high-quality mid-century majolica-style boutique potteries.
