Vintage Fitz and Floyd Asparagus Bundle Tureen or Planter

This item is a slip-cast ceramic vessel designed in the trompe-l'œil style to resemble a bundled crate of white and green asparagus spears. The object features a rectangular form with a deep recessed base. Physically, the piece is composed of numerous molded ceramic asparagus stalks, hand-painted with a pale white and sage green glaze, cinched together by two rendered brown hemp or twine ropes at either end. The interior and bottom are finished with a high-gloss white glaze. On the underside of the base, there are distinct hand-incised markings, specifically the numbers '1555' or a similar manufacturer's numeric code, alongside what appears to be a stamped 'F' or 'FI' mark, consistent with the production marks for Fitz and Floyd or similar high-quality mid-century majolica-style boutique potteries. The construction details show individual tips and nodes on the stalks, indicating a high level of detail in the mold-making process. Regarding condition, there is visible light shelf wear on the unglazed foot rim and some minor glaze peppering or pinholes consistent with the firing process. The piece appears to date from the late 20th century, likely between 1970 and 1990, a period when botanical-themed tableware and novelty tureens were highly popularized.
