This item is a rectangular vintage wire locker-style basket containing a curated collection of specimen sea shells. The basket is constructed from heavy-gauge galvanized steel wire with a grid-pattern weave, exhibiting significant surface oxidation, rusted patina, and remnants of light blue or green paint Flecks. It features two integrated wire handles on the short ends. Inside, the collection includes diverse marine specimens: a large Queen Conch (Lobatus gigas) with prominent spikes and a soft peach-colored aperture, two Chambered Nautilus shells showing classic brown and white tiger-stripe patterns, a long Marlinspike or Auger shell with brown spotted motifs, and various pieces of fossilized coral and weathered bivalves. The shells vary in condition; some exhibit natural beach-worn edges and minor calcification, while others like the Nautilus show signs of fragility with small chips along the thin aperture edges. The overall aesthetic is coastal industrial, likely dating from the mid-20th century for the basket, while the shells are natural organic specimens.
