This is an authentic American-made antique pocket watch movement produced by the Elgin National Watch Co. of Elgin, Illinois. Based on the visible serial number 1194245, the manufacture of this 18-size movement dates specifically to approximately 1906. The movement features a 'Safety Pinion' designed to protect the geartrain in the event of a mainspring break. The bridge plates are constructed from nickel and beautifully decorated with damaskeening—a series of intricate, wavy decorative circular patterns etched into the metal. The engraving is sharply executed, featuring the maker's name 'ELGIN NATL WATCH CO USA' and the serial number. The movement is a hunting-configuration (indicated by the placement of the winding crown) and displays a gilded balance wheel and brass gears.
