This specimen is a large natural Amethyst (purple variety of quartz) geode cathedral, characterized by a tall, hollow vertical formation. The exterior consists of a thick, basaltic host rock matrix with a brownish-grey, textured appearance, indicating it was likely formed within a volcanic gas bubble. The interior cavity is densely lined with translucent purple quartz crystals exhibiting a medium-to-deep violet saturation. The crystals demonstrate classic pyramidal hexagonal terminations with visible light-reflecting facets. Geologically, this specimen appears to originate from the Rio Grande do Sul region of Brazil or Artigas, Uruguay, given its structural style. The specimen features a flat-sawn base, allowing it to stand upright, and it occupies a significant portion of the lower shelf on the wooden stand shown.
