Vintage Chinese Carved Celadon Jade and Hardstone Bonsai Tree

This is a large and intricate vintage Chinese decorative bonsai tree, also known as a 'gem tree'. The piece is constructed with a central trunk that appears to be made of resin or lacquered wood with a gnarled, realistic texture and dark brown finish. From this trunk, multiple flexible branches extend, wrapped in green silk or thread, supporting a dense canopy of hand-carved stone elements. The blossoms are fashioned from various hardstones including rose quartz, amethyst, and white jade, while the foliage consists of nephrite or celadon-colored jade leaves. Each petal and leaf is individually wired, allowing for some adjustment. The tree is anchored in a celadon glazed ceramic planter with an octagonal or hexagonal shape, filled with small decorative gravel or pebbles to simulate earth. The colors range from dusty pinks and pale lavenders to deep forest greens. In terms of condition, the piece appears largely intact, though there is visible dust accumulation common for these complex items, and potentially some minor chipping to the delicate stone edges. These items were particularly popular mid-20th century imports, roughly 1950s-1970s. The level of detail in the wiring and the quantity of carved stones indicate a high level of craftsmanship for decorative export ware.
