Vintage Floral Ceramic Wash Basin

This is a large, wide-mouthed ceramic wash basin or bowl, characterized by a deep, rounded form and a wide flaring rim. The base color is a creamy off-white or ivory with a high-gloss glazed finish. A central decorative motif features a multi-colored floral transfer, prominently displaying a large golden-brown rose, a secondary grey-brown flower, and several smaller light blue blossoms with accompanying olive and dark green foliage. The outer rim is embellished with a continuous, hand-applied or stamped filigree border in metallic gold, exhibiting a delicate scrolling wave pattern with small floral accents. Regarding its construction, the ceramic appears relatively thick and heavy, typical of mid-20th-century pottery. In terms of condition, there is fine crazing visible across the glazed surface, particularly evident on the interior floor of the basin, which suggests significant age. Some light scuffing and minor surface wear are present. A retail thrift tag is adhered to the interior side wall. While no maker's mark is visible in the top view, the style matches mid-century American or European earthenware produced for washstand sets between 1940 and 1960. The hand-gilded rim and intricate transfer print indicate a level of mass-market craftsmanship designed to mimic more expensive Victorian porcelain.
