The piece is constructed entirely of solid hardwood, possibly oak or maple, featuring a warm medium-brown finish. It is designed with an integrated right-handed writing surface (tablet arm) supported by a vertical post extending from the front-left seat corner. The chair back consists of two curved horizontal slats for ergonomic support. Below the seat, a slatted wooden shelf is built into the stretcher system, originally intended for student book storage. The construction utilizes mortise and tenon joinery, characteristic of heavy-duty institutional furniture. The surface shows a significant aged patina with visible wear on the seat and tablet arm, including fading of the finish, light scratches, and dark circular staining on the seat consistent with long-term use.
