Pair of Chinese Cloisonné Enamel Vases

This is a matching pair of mid-20th-century Chinese cloisonné enamel vases featuring a classic baluster form with a flared rim. The vases are constructed using the traditional wired enamel technique on a brass body. They showcase a vibrant sky-blue ground decorated with a nature-themed motif consisting of flowering white plum blossoms on gnarled brown branches accompanied by small birds in flight. The necks of the vases are accented with a geometric ruyi-head border. The craftsmanship is typified by fine brass wiring that separates the colored glass pastes. In terms of condition, there is a significant area of damage visible on the lower right side of the right-hand vase, where the enamel has chipped away to reveal the dark underlying substrate or copper/brass base. There appears to be minor surface wear and oxidation on the exposed metal rims. These vases likely date to the Republic era or the mid-20th century. High-quality cloisonné is characterized by even pitting-free enamel and tight wire work; these appear to be standard export-quality pieces intended for the decorative market.
