This is a vintage heavy-duty brass padlock accompanied by its original or period-appropriate barrel key. The lock features a distinctive rounded body with prominent decorative shoulders at the top, flanking the steel or iron shackle. The face of the lock is clearly stamped with the manufacturer identification: 'WALSALL LOCKS & CART GEAR LTD' and is dated '1928', indicating its early 20th-century origins. The construction reflects the robust industrial standards of the period, utilizing high-quality cast brass for the body to prevent corrosion. A pivoting keyhole cover (escutcheon) is present at the bottom to protect the internal mechanism from debris. The brass surface shows a dull, aged patina with minor surface scratches and localized oxidation consistent with industrial or outdoor use over several decades.
