1980 US Kennedy Half Dollar

This is a United States half dollar coin featuring the profile of President John F. Kennedy on the obverse side. Struck in 1980, this particular specimen is composed of a copper-nickel clad material (pure copper core bonded to outer layers of 75% copper and 25% nickel), as silver composition in circulating Kennedy halves ceased after 1970. The coin has a diameter of 30.6 millimeters and a reeded edge. The design, originally created by Gilroy Roberts shortly after Kennedy's assassination, shows the President's head facing left. Above him is the word 'LIBERTY' and below him is the date '1980', with the motto 'IN GOD WE TRUST' appearing across the lower half of the portrait. There are numerous small contact marks, known as 'bag marks,' across the cheek and neck of the portrait, as well as in the open fields of the coin.
