This item is a large, natural marine mollusk shell, specifically from the Haliotis genus, commonly known as an abalone. The shell exhibits an oval, ear-shaped structure with a low-spiraled apex. The interior is lined with a thick layer of nacre, or mother-of-pearl, which displays a vibrant, iridescent play of colors including shimmering greens, pinks, purples, and blues. This optical effect is created by the structural layering of aragonite crystals. The exterior of the shell appears to have been partially polished or cleaned to reveal the pearlescent layer, though some of the natural rough, calcified grey/brown outer texture remains near the rim. A characteristic row of small respiratory pores is visible along the side. Condition-wise, the shell shows natural undulations and some minor chipping or roughness along the thin edges, which is typical for organic specimens. There are no obvious signs of commercial mounting or jewelry conversion, appearing as a stand-alone decorative object or ritual vessel. Its size is significant, likely measuring between 5 to 7 inches in length. Such shells are frequently used in decorative arts, as catch-all bowls, or in spiritual smudging ceremonies.
