Lot of 5 West German 5 Deutsche Mark Silver Coins (1951)

This lot consists of five authentic West German 5 Deutsche Mark silver coins, primarily dated 1951. These coins are colloquially known as 'Heiermann' and represent the first circulating 5 Mark denomination of the Federal Republic of Germany following World War II. Each coin is composed of .625 fine silver, measuring approximately 29mm in diameter and weighing 11.2 grams. The obverse of the coins features the large numeral '5' centered, surrounded by the inscription 'BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND' and the currency unit 'DEUTSCHE MARK'. The reverse side, visible on one coin in the set, depicts the stylized German federal eagle (Bundesadler). The coins exhibit a range of circulated conditions, showing significant surface oxidation, darkening, and a heavy patina consistent with age and long-term storage. There are visible contact marks (bag marks) and minor rim dings on several specimens. These coins were struck at various German mints, indicated by mint marks such as J (Hamburg), D (Munich), F (Stuttgart), or G (Karlsruhe), though specific marks on each individual coin are partially obscured by toning. The edge features the incuse inscription 'EINIGKEIT UND RECHT UND FREIHEIT,' though it is not fully visible in the photograph. This set holds historical significance as early post-war German currency.
