Vintage Marlo M.A.C Sculpture Pineapple Shelf Corbel Sconces

This is a pair of vintage decorative wall corbels or shelf brackets featuring a prominent pineapple motif, designed by Marlo for M.A.C. Sculpture, Inc. of California. The items are likely dated to approximately 1981 based on the sticker mark. Physically, the pieces demonstrate a mixed-media construction utilizing a cast composite or resin for the pineapple and pedestal bases, finished in a textured, antiqued gold and bronze metallic patina. Emerging from the top of the pineapples are hand-wrought iron or steel scrollwork elements that function as the support for the wooden shelf surfaces visible at the top. The pineapple, a traditional symbol of hospitality, is rendered with significant cross-hatched detail. Notable features include a circular foil label on the reverse of one unit which reads 'Original Designs by Marlo, M.A.C. Sculpture, Inc., 1981, California.' The condition shows visible signs of age including surface oxidation (rusting) on the metal scrollwork, particularly on the right unit. There is wear to the gold-leaf style finish and some minor chipping on the edges of the resin. The wooden platforms show some scratching and finish loss, indicating frequent use.
