Vintage Oval Ceramic Cachepot with Strawberry and Insect Motif

This is a large, oval-shaped ceramic cachepot or planter featuring two integrated side handles. The vessel is constructed from heavy ceramic with a pale, celadon-grey or off-white glazed background. It is decorated with a delicate hand-painted Chinoiserie-style design consisting of trailing strawberry vines, green leaves, and small red berries, interspersed with various flying insects such as butterflies/moths and dragonflies. A distinct ochre or tan-colored band runs along the top rim and extends to the two shell-curved handles. The construction shows a thick-walled body with a slightly flared rim and a matching molded base ring. Notable condition issues include a large, visible horizontal crack or hairline fracture running across the left and center-front of the body, which appears to have been stabilized but is quite prominent. There is also visible surface crazing consistent with a mid-20th-century age. The style suggests a possible French or Italian origin, emulating classic botanical porcelain from the 18th or 19th century. The interior appears stained and holds paper contents, suggesting it has been used for household storage. Despite the structural flaw, the level of hand-painted detail and the substantial scale of the piece indicate a high-quality decorative object meant for high-end interior display.
