This is a set of two exquisite Japanese porcelain plates, each distinctively shaped like an open fan. The plates exhibit a vibrant Imari-style polychrome decoration featuring a rich palette of cobalt blue, iron red, touches of green, and significant gold gilding against a crisp white ground. The central design on the face of each plate depicts a complex array of natural and stylized motifs. Large, lush orange chrysanthemums and other floral elements anchor the lower portion, while various patterns resembling textile or stylized bird designs fill fan-like sections above. Interspersed within the decoration are elements suggesting clouds, birds (possibly cranes or phoenixes), and geometric patterns within a foliate framework. The rim of each plate is bordered with a deep cobalt blue band adorned with gold detailing, flanked by a repeated stylized wave or geometric pattern in a lighter blue and white. The undulating, scalloped edges mimic the folds of a fan, adding to their unique aesthetic.
