Lane Cedar Chest

This is a vintage Lane Cedar Chest, likely from the Mid-Century Modern to late Art Deco period, possibly late 1940s to 1950s. The exterior features a light-colored wood veneer, possibly maple or birch, with a prominent grain. The front facade is highly decorative, designed to mimic the appearance of multiple drawers. There are six faux 'drawers' on the upper section, with four larger ones featuring ornate, elongated brass-toned pull handles with a stylized, scroll-like design. Between these faux drawers are vertical brass or metal strips accentuating the design. Below this, there are three functional, smaller drawers with simple, brass drop-ring pull hardware. The base features a scalloped or curved apron design, adding to its decorative appeal. The overall condition of the exterior shows some signs of wear, including potential scuffs or discoloration consistent with age and use. The interior is lined entirely with aromatic cedar wood, characteristic of cedar chests designed for linen or blanket storage. Multiple manufacturing marks are visible inside the lid: a prominent "LANE Cedar Chest" red banner logo, a smaller "LANE" logo with a deer watermark nearby, and a circular "AROMA" stamp on the bottom interior. A blue tag, likely an informational or sales tag, is affixed to the inside of the lid. A 'BURGLAR PROOF' label is also partially visible on the lid. The hardware for the lid hinge mechanism is visible and appears functional. The quality of craftsmanship is indicative of mass-produced, yet durable, furniture from the era, with attention to functional storage and decorative appeal.
