This is a rare 25 Centesimi postage stamp from the Duchy of Modena (Poste Estensi), dating to approximately 1852. The stamp is printed in black ink on off-white or light buff-colored paper. Physically, it is an imperforate square-cut stamp, featuring the classic heraldic design of the House of Este: an eagle with spread wings surmounted by a crown, enclosed within two laurel branches tied with a ribbon at the base. The top border is inscribed with 'POSTE ESTENSI' flanked by decorative florets, while the bottom reads 'CENT. 25' similarly flanked. Side panels feature vertical scrolling vine motifs. The printing technique appears to be typography (letterpress), which was standard for the period. Condition-wise, the stamp shows a slight yellowing or aging of the paper consistent with its mid-19th-century origin. The margins are visible but irregular, having been hand-cut rather than perforated. There is a horizontal black ink smudge or cancellation mark across the center, which indicates it was likely used in circulation.
