Rococo Revival Oval Gilt Wall Mirrors

This is a pair of large, oval-shaped wall mirrors featuring heavy Rococo Revival influences. The frames are likely constructed from molded resin or wood with applied composition ornament (compo), finished in an antiqued gold or bronze gilt. The design is characterized by elaborate, high-relief rocaille carvings, including C-scrolls, acanthus leaf motifs, and floral cresting at the cardinal points. The finish shows a dark antiqued patina in the deep crevices to accentuate the ornate detail. In terms of condition, the mirrors appear structurally intact, though there is visible surface dust and light grime consistent with storage in a garage environment. Minor abrasions and small chips to the gilt finish are present along the outermost edges of the molding. The mirrors feature a non-beveled glass plate. While they mimic 18th-century French styles, the uniform molding suggests a mid-to-late 20th-century manufacture, approximately 40 to 60 years old. The craftsmanship shows a high level of detail in the casting, making them substantial decorative statement pieces.
