100 Pesetas Banknotes (Spain, 1970)

This lot features two identical 100 Pesetas banknotes issued by El Banco de España, dated November 17, 1970. Both banknotes are rectangular, made of paper, and predominantly feature brown and cream/off-white colors. The design includes ornate borders, particularly along the left and bottom edges, with prominent '100' denominations in a stylized, almost floral pattern at the top-left and bottom-left corners. The central design prominently displays a portrait of a distinguished gentleman wearing glasses, facing right. Above the portrait, 'EL BANCO DE ESPAÑA' is printed, along with the denomination 'CIEN PESETAS' and the issue date 'MADRID, 17 de Noviembre de 1970'. Both banknotes display unique serial numbers, with one being 3Z5091027 and the other 3Z5091028, indicating consecutive numbering or notes from the same series. Signatures of bank officials are visible below the date. In terms of condition, both banknotes appear to be in excellent, uncirculated, or nearly uncirculated condition, showing very minimal to no visible creases, tears, or significant discoloration. The corners look sharp, and the paper appears crisp, suggesting they have been well-preserved. There are no apparent major folds or handling marks, which speaks to their quality and indicates careful storage.
