World War II Silver Jefferson Nickel Set (1942-1945)

This is a complete collection of the 11 World War II era Jefferson 'Silver' Nickels, presented in a clear acrylic display case with a patriotic red, white, and blue interior mounting board. Due to the scarcity of nickel during the war effort, these coins were minted using an alloy of 35% silver, 56% copper, and 9% manganese between late 1942 and 1945. The set includes all date and mint mark combinations: 1942-P, 1942-S, 1943-P, 1943-D, 1943-S, 1944-P, 1944-D, 1944-S, 1945-P, 1945-D, and 1945-S. A distinguishing feature of these 'War Nickels' is the large mint mark located above the dome of Monticello on the reverse, marking the first time the letter 'P' was used for the Philadelphia Mint. The coins in this set appear to range from circulated to high-circulated conditions, displaying typical greyish silver patina characteristic of the alloy. The acrylic case is secured with adhesive tape, and the set is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from the Sport Stamps Collectors Association (SSCA) based in Hicksville, N.Y. The certificate confirms the coins are authentic struck currency of the United States Mint. The presentation shows some light handling wear on the outer case, but the coins remain well-protected within the custom-labeled slots.
