1963 California Black License Plate

This is a vintage 1963-issue California license plate, bearing the alphanumeric sequence 'YCZ 897'. The plate follows the classic 'black plate' design era, featuring a black background with embossed chrome-yellow or mustard-yellow lettering. The top center features the state name 'CALIFORNIA' in embossed capital letters, flanked by two debossed registration year wells. The right-hand well contains an original '63' debossed year stamp, confirming its initial issue year. The plate is constructed from heavy-gauge steel, measuring approximately 12 by 6 inches. Physically, the item shows significant signs of age and environment-related wear. There is notable surface rust and oxidation particularly along the left-hand border, the upper left corner, and the bottom edge.
