The piece features a distinct faux bamboo frame constructed from solid wood turned and carved to resemble bamboo stalks, finished in a dark ebony or deep chocolate stain. The drawer fronts and top surface are inset with panels of split rattan or reed, arranged in a contrasting woven pattern that alternates between horizontal and vertical orientations to create a parquetry effect. The color of the reed work shows a warm, reddish-brown 'burnt' tortoiseshell patina, which was a highly popular exotic finish during the era.
