This item is a United States 1900 Double Eagle gold coin, commonly referred to as a Liberty Head or 'Coronet' type gold piece. The coin is composed of 90% gold and 10% copper, measuring approximately 34mm in diameter. The obverse features the profile of Lady Liberty facing left, her hair secured in a knot with several loose curls falling down her neck. She wears a coronet inscribed with 'LIBERTY.' Encircling the bust are thirteen six-pointed stars representing the original colonies, with the date '1900' positioned at the bottom. Regarding physical condition, the coin displays significant signs of wear and environmental distress. There is a heavy, dark patina and buildup of grime across the surfaces, particularly around the recessed areas of the hair and the stars. Multiple surface abrasions, small nicks, and 'rim dings' are visible, indicating it was likely circulated or stored improperly.
