The central decoration is executed in a channel-inlay or mosaic style, utilizing at least four distinct natural materials: iridescent abalone shell for the bird's body and select leaves, white mother-of-pearl for the bell-shaped flower, black stone (possibly onyx or jet) for the wings and tail, and red coral or jasper for the bird's throat and flower buds. The scene depicts a bird in flight sipping nectar from a floral vine. The perimeter is accented with a segmented border of turquoise and red coral rectangular inlays.
