Collection of Machine-Made Glass Cat's Eye and Swirl Marbles

This collection consists of approximately 60 vintage and contemporary glass marbles gathered on a disposable paper plate. The primary variety present is the 'Cat's Eye,' recognizable by the internal ribbon-like vanes of colored glass suspended in clear glass centers. The colors include vibrant shades of green, blue, yellow, orange, and red. The collection features a variety of sizes, primarily standard players (approx. 5/8 inch) and at least two larger 'shooters' (approx. 1 inch). Included are several distinctive styles: classic four-vane cat's eyes, multi-colored swirl types with opaque white bases, and a few semi-translucent solid-color spheres. The materials are silica-based glass, likely manufactured using automated machinery which produces the characteristic internal twists and smooth exterior surfaces. Most items appear to date from the mid-20th century (1950s-1970s) to late-20th century, typically produced by companies such as Vitro Agate, Marble King, or Peltier Glass. Regarding condition, while many retain a high-gloss finish, several specimens exhibit 'flea bites' (tiny surface nicks) and minor scuffing consistent with active play. The assortment lacks rare hand-gathered pontil marks, suggesting a mass-produced origin, yet the variety of color combinations and the presence of larger shooters indicate a typical mid-century child's play set.
