This is a vintage, hand-carved wooden sculpture depicting a South American Gaucho, traditional to regions like Argentina or Uruguay. The figure stands atop a rustic, cross-cut circular wood base that retains its original natural bark rim. The carving is executed in a dark-stained hardwood, possibly algarrobo or a similar dense regional timber, shown through deep, rhythmic vertical chisel marks that define the folds of his traditional chiripá (trousers) and faja (sash). A notable detail is the inclusion of miniature bolas (boleadoras) held in the right hand, consisting of light-colored wooden spheres suspended by cord. The figure is clad in a traditional hat, a neckerchief, and a poncho draped over the left arm. The craftsmanship leans toward high-quality folk art, likely mid-to-late 20th century.
