Vintage Onyx and Ormolu Three-Tiered Hors d'Oeuvres Server

This is a decorative three-well serving piece, commonly referred to as a trefoil nut dish or hors d'oeuvres server. The item consists of three circular bowls fashioned from light celadon-green translucent onyx, characterized by its natural internal banding and soft milky hue. Each bowl is bordered by a substantial gold-toned ormolu or brass rim featuring an etched Greek key or geometric pattern along the outer edge. The three bowls are unified by a central, ornate cast-metal handle in a rococo revival style, exhibiting acanthus leaf motifs, scrollwork, and a decorative finial loop for easy transport. This style of serveware was particularly popular in the mid-20th century, approximately 1950s to 1970s, often produced in Italy or France. The craftsmanship shows a high level of detail in the metal casting and stone polishing. In terms of condition, the metal components show light surface oxidation and patina consistent with age. There are minor interior surface scratches in the onyx wells from use, but the stone appears free of significant structural cracks or chips.
