Samuel Marti Victorian Slate and Marble Mantle Clock

This is a Victorian-era French mantle clock, featuring an architectural case constructed from polished black slate with variegated grey and white marble insets. The clock stands on four ornate cast metal lion-paw feet with scrollwork details, showing a significant dark patina and some wear to the original gilt or bronze finish. The central black dial is adorned with gold-toned Roman numerals and features an inner ring of decorative brass beading. The hands appear to be a simple spade style. The case is further embellished with delicate gold incised floral and foliate patterns on the base and surrounding the dial. Two vertical panels of variegated marble flank the dial, segmented by black slate strips with gold-tapered finial markings. The pediment top is flat and simple, keeping with the late 19th-century styling, likely dating from 1870-1890. Given the 'Marti' attribution, it houses a movement by the renowned French maker Samuel Marti. Condition shows some surface dust and minor edge chipping consistent with age, but the overall stone polish remains high. A small rectangular marble inset is centered on the lower plinth, framed by further gilt scrollwork.
