A substantial and highly decorative empty picture frame measuring 86 x 113 cm. The frame is constructed from wood and molded plaster (likely composition), finished with a metallic gold-toned gilding. The design exhibits classic Rococo Revival or Louis XV style characteristics, featuring a deep, cove-profile molding adorned with intricate relief work. The ornamentation includes continuous floral swags, scrolls, and acanthus leaf motifs, with a prominent outer shell-and-leaf border and a secondary inner beaded and twisted ribbon liner. The gilding displays a rich, warm tone with an aged patina gathered in the recessed carvings, enhancing the three-dimensional depth of the molding. Regarding condition, the piece appears structurally intact; however, there are visible signs of age-related wear, including minor abrasions to the gilding particularly at the corners and outer edges.
