This is a vintage or antique folding hand fan featuring a delicate cream or off-white lace leaf attached to a wooden mounting. The lace is intricately patterned with floral motifs, including central hibiscus-like blossoms and flanking scrolling vines, utilizing varied stitch densities to create depth. The lace also incorporates geometric eyelet details known as 'jours' or openwork. The guards and sticks are crafted from a warm-toned reddish wood, possibly sandalwood or rosewood, featuring pierced fretwork (ajoure) in a scalloped pattern near the throat. Gold-toned (possibly gilding or metallic paint) scrolling filigree designs decorate the lower portion of the guards and the shoulder of the sticks. The fan is secured at the pivot with a metal pin.
