Mid-Century Modern Teak and Steel OMNI Shelving System by George Nelson

This is a modular three-bay modular shelving and storage system, known as the OMNI wall unit, designed by George Nelson for Structural Products, Inc. circa 1960. The unit is constructed with black-anodized aluminum or steel spring-tension vertical rails that extend from floor to ceiling. The modular components are crafted from warm-toned teak wood with a visible horizontal grain. This specific configuration includes a variety of functional elements: two large overhead storage cabinets with flip-up doors, several adjustable open shelves, a drop-front bar or secretary cabinet with a small chrome pull, a desk module with a shallow integrated drawer, and a lower three-drawer chest featuring recessed dark-finished handles. The metal uprights show typical signs of use including minor scuffs and age-related oxidation. The teak surfaces appear well-maintained with a soft satin patina, though some minor expected wear, light surface scratches, and slight darkening from UV exposure near the window-side are likely present. The craftsmanship is high-quality, characterized by clean lines, minimalist hardware, and a versatile 'floating' aesthetic that exemplifies American Mid-Century Modern industrial design. No visible maker's marks are on the exterior, but labels are typically found inside drawer boxes or on the back of cabinets.
