This is a matching pair of vintage two-way bookshelf speakers, identified by the distinctive logo on the bottom center of the grills as model AR-4x from Acoustic Research. The cabinets are constructed from solid wood or thick wood veneer with a natural oak or walnut finish, featuring classic mid-century rectangular proportions. Each speaker front is covered by a dark, coarse-weave fabric acoustic grill in a charcoal or dark gray tone. Both units show significant signs of age and wear; the wood cabinets exhibit scuffing, edge wear, and notable finish loss along the bottom front edges, particularly on the right speaker where white reside or paint transfer is visible. The grill cloths appear weathered with some minor fraying, dust accumulation, and staining. Small square manufacturer badges are affixed to the lower portion of each grill. These speakers typically date from the mid-to-late 1960s, a period when Acoustic Research set the industry standard for acoustic suspension technology. Despite the cosmetic condition issues, the heavy construction suggests a high-quality build era for home audio equipment.
