American Golden Oak Washstand with Towel Bar

This is a late Victorian to early Edwardian era (circa 1890-1910) washstand, commonly referred to as a commode. The piece is constructed from solid oak and oak veneers, exhibiting the characteristic 'Golden Oak' finish popular during the turn of the century. It features a vertical towel bar assembly (harp) mounted to the back, which lacks the original mirror that would have likely been centered between the uprights. The body of the cabinet consists of one full-width top drawer, three graduated side drawers on the left, and a single recessed-panel cupboard door on the right. The hardware includes stamped decorative metal bail pulls with an antiqued finish and a simple circular knob on the cupboard door. The base is finished with a decorative scalloped apron and sits on small wooden swivel casters. The wood displays a prominent grain pattern typical of flat-sawn oak. Regarding condition, there is visible surface wear and age-related patina, particularly on the top surface which shows some staining and finish loss, likely due to historical water contact from a wash basin and pitcher. The structural integrity appears solid, though the missing mirror and minor scuffs along the base are notable condition factors.
