This is a vintage-style brass chamberstick, also known as a candle holder, featuring a nautical gimbal design intended to keep the candle upright on uneven surfaces such as a ship. The item is constructed from high-quality polished brass with a rich gold-toned finish. It stands on a circular, stepped pedestal base that supports a shallow, wide drip pan. Above the pan sits a weighted spherical counterweight, atop which is the candle socket. A distinctive curved, scroll-shaped handle is attached to the side of the drip pan, allowing for easy carrying. The gimbal mechanism is integrated into the central post, enabling the candle and its protective sphere to pivot. In terms of condition, there is visible surface tarnish and dark patina spots, particularly on the lower half of the sphere and the drip pan, which is common for aged brass. There are minor surface scratches consistent with use. While no maker's mark is visible in the photograph, the style and construction suggest a mid-20th-century reproduction of earlier 18th or 19th-century maritime lighting.
