This is a hand-built studio pottery mug featuring a rustic, folk-art aesthetic. The vessel is constructed from a heavy stoneware or earthenware clay, characterized by a bulbous lower body that tapers to a narrow neck before flaring into a prominent, wide-rimmed opening—hence the 'BIG LIPS' designation mentioned on the handle. The glazing is a two-tone earth-tone palette: the upper interior and rim feature a mottled yellowish-tan matte glaze with dark speckles, while the exterior lower half and large, oversized handle are finished in a glossy, reddish-brown chocolate glaze. The handle is thick and hand-formed, showing visible thumb-press marks where it joins the body. According to the user, the handle is inscribed with 'BIG LIPS' and the base features 'JEUX' and a snowflake/asterisk mark. The construction is intentionally primitive, featuring irregular surface textures and uneven ribbing around the belly, suggesting a late 20th-century artisan origin. The condition appears stable with a natural aged patina; the glaze shows typical minor pitting and variations inherent to the kiln-firing process, with no immediate evidence of large cracks or structural repairs visible in the image.
