Overlord Scooch Portrait from 'Service' Exhibition

This is an original contemporary figurative painting by American artist Courtney Jolliff, created for his debut exhibition 'Service' in Detroit, Michigan. The work is executed in a neo-expressionist style, characterized by bold, gestural brushstrokes and a restricted monochromatic palette of grey, white, and black, accented with brown tones for skin and a signature yellow-gold crown floating above the subject. The painting depicts Detroit rapper Overlord Scooch in a stylish, oversized light-colored coat, wide-brimmed hat, and necktie, capturing a sense of urban elegance and authority. The background features abstracted silhouetted figures and architectural steps, rendered with high-contrast impasto. The physical medium appears to be acrylic or oil on a rectangular paper or canvas panel, approximately 9x12 or 11x14 inches. A distinct artist signature incorporating a date (likely '22' or '23') and stylized initials is visible in the lower left corner. The condition appears excellent with raw edges typical of a working studio piece. The provenance is significant, as the subject provided crucial support to Jolliff during his transition out of homelessness following a 2022 house fire, adding substantial cultural and emotional depth to the piece.
