Vintage Planters Peanuts 75th Anniversary Dry Roasted Glass Jars

A pair of vintage Planters Peanuts glass countertop display jars, specifically commemorating the company's 75th anniversary (1981). These jars are constructed from thick, clear pressed glass and feature a cylindrical body transitioning into a tapered shoulder and a wide mouth. Each jar is topped with a distinct, bulbous 'peanut-finial' style lid that includes a plastic or rubberized airtight gasket seal. The glass is embossed with the 'PLANTERS' name in a bold, sans-serif font across the top section, while a large embossed 'Mr. Peanut' figure is visible on the lower front portion. One jar retains its original blue, yellow, and red paper label, which explicitly identifies the product as 'Dry Roasted Peanuts' and features the '75th Anniversary' logo and Mr. Peanut illustration. The second jar is missing the paper label but maintains all identical glass embossing. Both jars appear to be in good vintage condition with no visible cracks or heavy chipping, though the glass shows slight cloudiness and the gaskets appear somewhat aged or brittle. These pieces represent classic mid-20th-century Americana advertising and were produced as promotional store displays or large-format consumer packaging in the early 1980s.

Based on my visual examination of this pair of 1981 Planters Peanuts 75th Anniversary glass jars, I found them to be genuine examples of mass-produced corporate memorabilia from the early 1980s. The pressed glass retains its structural integrity, though the noted cloudiness suggests minor solarization or mineral deposit. The presence of one original paper label significantly enhances the collectible value, as these are often lost to cleaning or environmental decay. The 'peanut-finial' lid remains the most sought-after feature of this specific production run. The market for 1980s Planters memorabilia is stable but saturated. These jars were widely distributed, meaning rarity is low; however, the 'store display' scale makes them desirable for Americana and kitch-decor collectors. Comparable sales for single jars with labels range from $35-$45, while those without labels typically sell for $15-$25. The brittle nature of the gaskets is expected for this age and slightly detracts from functional use but not display value. Total authentication is limited by the digital format. In-person inspection would be required to rule out modern reproductions (though unlikely for this specific anniversary model) and to check for micro-fissures in the glass or hidden 'flea bites' on the inner rim of the jars. A physical examine would also verify if the glass cloudiness is surface-level or internal 'glass sickness,' the latter of which would decrease the value by 40%. Full provenance, such as original store-owner records, would confirm their status as commercial displays rather than standard retail consumer jars.
